NO. 2 EL PATIO DE BETTY OCHOA

Betty Ochoa Anillo nació en San Jacinto a padres campesinos. Trabajaba como artesana y se hizo conocida como compositora y cantante. Sus composiciones fueron primero interpretados por los músicos del pueblo –entre ellos Andrés Landero y Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto– y luego en varios países. Así han recorrido el mundo.
Este cuaderno reune las conversaciones que tuve con Betty Ochoa, su esposo, el compositor José Anillo, y la hija Claudia Anillo Ochoa entre 2019 y 2022.
Los temas principales de «El patio de Betty Ochoa» son los recuerdos y el olvido, piezas arqueológicas, la vida campesina, las enseñanzas, anotaciones, petroglífos – en fin: rastros en el bosque, en el corazón y en la mente.
El patio de la familia Anillo Ochoa se encuentra en la parte trasera de su casa en la calle principal de San Jacinto. En los pueblos de la región del caribe colombiano los patios son el punto central de la vida cotidiana.

«Todo comenzó con esa canción, la mencionaste y me la cantaste la primera vez que les visité a ustedes. Como ustedes en la canción, también yo había viajado de El Banco a Magangué, cruzando el río Magdalena en chalupa. Crucé el río Magdalena para llegar aquí a tu casa. Alguien me comentó que si se conectaran los sitios de petroglífos en esta zona, se daría una línea que va del Río Magdalena al Cerro de Maco. Entonces, la línea del viaje en tu canción se cruza con la del paso de los indígenas para ir desde el Río Magdalena hasta el Cerro de Maco. También es la conexión de los arroyos con el río y el mar, que es el corazón del mundo.»

NO. 2 BETTY OCHOA’S YARD

Betty Ochoa Anillo was born in San Jacinto to peasant parents. She worked as a craftswoman and became known as a composer and singer. Her compositions were performed first by local musicians - among them Andres Landero and Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto - and later in different countries. That’s how they travelled the world.
This Cuaderno verde brings together conversations I had with Betty Ochoa, her husband composer José Anillo, and their daughter Claudia Anillo Ochoa between 2019 and 2022.
The main themes of "El patio de Betty Ochoa" are memories and oblivion, archaeological pieces, peasant life, teachings, annotations, petroglyphs - in short: traces in the forest, in the heart and in the mind.

The Anillo Ochoa family's patio is located at the back of their house on the main street of San Jacinto. In the villages in the Colombian Caribbean region, patios are the focal point of daily life.

“It all started with that song, you mentioned it and sang it to me I visited you for the first time. Like you in the song, I also had traveled from El Banco to Magangué, crossing the Magdalena River by boat. I crossed the Magdalena River to get to your house. Someone told me that if the petroglyph sites in this area were connected, there would be a line that goes from the Magdalena River to the hill of Maco. So, the line of travel in your song intersects with that of the indigenous people's passage to go from the Magdalena River to the Maco hill. It is also the connection of the streams with the river and with the sea, which is the heart of the world."
